Budget supermarket chain Lidl may be best-known for its low-cost offerings, value meat and esteemed wine range but its whisky that is making headlines.

The brand’s Queen Margot Whisky has taken home the top prize for the 'Best Scotch Whisky’ at the World Whiskies Awards — chosen by a panel of 40 international industry experts.

Beating out whiskies from around the world and competitors like Johnnie Walker Black Label (which retails at almost double the cost), the 8 Year Blended Scotch Whisky is described as having the aroma of dried apricot and plum with an eight year mellowing period in oak casks.

But the best part, whether you prefer it neat, on the rocks or with a mixer (we won't tell), the brilliant bottle costs only £13.49.

Head to Lidl quick while stocks last.
