£1.5m for Sven autobiography
Not content with his wages of £5million a year for managing England, Sven Goran Eriksson has signed a deal worth more than £1.5million to write a book about it.
He expected to discuss his career, his colourful personal life - and his opinion of footballers such as Wayne Rooney and David Beckham.
Plans for the autobiography, to be published in time for the Christmas rush, were revealed as his team prepare for their World Cup quarter-final against Portugal on Saturday.
It will revive memories of the furore caused by one of his predecessors, Glenn Hoddle, who was accused of betraying the England players with his account of the 1998 World Cup campaign in France.
Win or lose at the weekend, the 58-year-old Swede is in the last days of his much-criticised tenure as England coach. His contract ends on July 9 - the day of the World Cup final - and according to FA insiders he is free to write of his experiences in the job once he is no longer employed by the Football Association.
'You could argue that the timing could be better,' said one source within the FA. 'But he will be a free agent after the World Cup. Some of the players might not like the fact he will be discussing them in a book but there is nothing that can be done.'
Eriksson has had a torrid time since taking the England job in 2001 and had an affair with TV personality Ulrika Jonsson while he was living with girlfriend Nancy Dell'Olio.
He has apparently been planning the book for some time. 'He has a fantastic story to tell,' said his business agent Lars Sternmarker.
