Perhaps Chris Martin wasn't content with wife Gwyneth Paltrow getting all the attention, or maybe the singer thought it was time for an image overhaul to go with his new album release.

Either way, the Coldplay frontman  has shed his curls in favour of a more sophisticated look.

Martin unveiled his newly shaved head during the band's world tour, which was interrupted for a BBC performance of Colplay's greatest hits.

He told the BBC the album Prospects March would be out around Christmas this year and confirmed the release of another one in December 2009.

The album will reportedly be their last, along with a greatest hits compilation, before the contract with EMI comes to an end.

Chris told BBC's Steve Lamacq: "Then we'll be gone, like Keyser Soze in the Usual Suspects."

Martin, 31, could possibly use the time off to extend his family.

Talk of Gwyneth's possible pregnancy first surfaced in January after the star was admitted to hospital in New York suffering from a mystery illness.

And the 35-year-old, who has two children with Chris - Apple, four, and Moses, two - is apparently keen to bring in a new addition.

In an interview with U.S. magazine Harper's Bazaar she admitted: 'I may force myself to do it one more time because the result is so worth it.
