Most children are lucky if they get a swing or a treehouse in the back garden.

When your parents are David and Victoria Beckham, however, you can afford to think a little larger.

Our picture shows the huge wooden fort which the footballer and his singer wife are having built for their sons at their 'Beckingham Palace' mansion.

The couple have paid a reputed £120,000 for the fort - which comes complete with turrets and a drawbridge - as an early Christmas present for Brooklyn and Romeo.

The builders have added a few touches not found in most forts, including a helterskelter metal slide, climbing frame and a rope-swing.

Appropriately for the sons of the England captain, there are flags of St George fluttering from the tops of the turrets (just like the one flying from the roof of their parents' house).

The two-storey towers have electric lights so Brooklyn and Romeo can play in the winter months.

And there is rubber matting to prevent any injuries if the boys or their friends take a tumble.

The craftsmen have been building the fort for the last three weeks and it covers at least 100 square feet.

A source said last night: 'It's massive, bigger than my house and certainly not the simple rope hanging from a tree branch with a tyre on the bottom most children have - but then this is the Beckhams we are talking about.'

He added mischievously: 'I suppose that the couple who behave like royalty wanted a fort to go with the palace they already own.

'But you do wonder why it is being built if the family are supposed to be living in Spain now.'
