David Beckham today claims he has "no regrets" over his extraordinary life as one of the world's most famous footballers.

The England captain says in an interview with the Daily Mirror he is not "addicted to fame", and would not change any aspect of his life.

He does, however, wish he and his children Brooklyn, five, and Romeo, two, could on occasion be left out of the limelight, adding that his stardom has left him suspicious of others, while certain stories about him have
been "ridiculous".

"There are only a few people I can trust", says the 29-year-old, who in the article refutes stories that he has marginalised his parents, Ted and Sandra,
in favour of wife Victoria's mother and father, Jackie and Tony Adams.

He argues it is normal for "boyfriends" to spend more time at their "girlfriend's" house, saying that is why it appears he has in the past spent more time with her family.

Beckham goes on to add that his family has never had a problem with Victoria's parents, saying he has treated them all equally.

The star also claims he never stages photo opportunities for the media, saying: "I don't love my picture being everywhere. I don't set pictures up.
It's not me. That's never been my game. I wouldn't even know who to call."

Beckham insists in the interview that he will never lose his roots as an East End boy, even after leaving Manchester United for Real Madrid.

And, apart from the sometimes unwelcome press attention, he says he is happy.

"I'm so appreciative of what I've done in my career. It never gets to the
pitch where I think I'd swap everything to be anonymous."
