Britney Spears is reportedly working on “an album of duets” following the success of her single Hold Me Closer with Sir Elton John.

It is believed the Toxic hitmaker, 41, is lining up collaborations with the likes of Dua Lipa, Ariana Grande and Sam Smith, who have all publicly said they’re fans of the pop superstar.

The Gimme More songstress hasn’t released an album since 2016 – but The Sun has reported that while she has no plans to promote new music, a duets album is an opportunity for her to “connect” with her fans.

A music insider told the outlet: “Britney will not go out and promote anything current, so a duets album is a good way of her avoiding having to do any promotion while still getting the tracks played around the world.

“Britney loves nothing more than releasing music, so this is a way she can keep relevant while allowing her the time to work out how she wants to take her next steps.

“Each day is being taken as it comes, and this is a very low-risk way of staying connected with her fans while also opening up some amazing collaborations.”

The Standard has contacted Britney Spears’ rep for comment.

Her last release, Glory, her ninth album, debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 chart. While it debuted at number two and number one, in the UK and Ireland, respectively, making it her highest charting album across the British Isles since Blackout.

The album featured three singles, Private Show, Clumsy and Do You Wanna Come Over?.

As one of the biggest names in pop, Spears headlined 10 tours between 1999 and 2018 and, when under conservatorship, she even had a successful Las Vegas residency from 2013 to 2017, Britney: Piece of Me, which grossed almost $138 million.

The star has been on an indefinite work hiatus since 2019 and in November 2020, her then attorney told a court that the singer had no plans to ever perform again as long her father, Jamie Spears, remained in control of her personal and professional life.
