Jeremy Clarkson has been hit by a £10,000 burglary after crooks spotted newspaper pictures of him on holiday.

The burglars tricked their way into the 46-year-old Top Gear presenter's Notting Hill apartment while he was on holiday in Barbados with his 43-yearold wife Francie.

Firstly, a woman rang the block's porter claiming to be Mrs Clarkson and saying her nephew was coming to stay and would need the spare key.

When a man turned up at the flat in Hereford Road the next day posing as the nephew, the porter handed over the key.

The gang took a laptop, DVD player, stereo, television and jewellery including gold and silver rings and a diamond necklace in the raid last week.

Police believe a gang is using press reports to target celebrities who are abroad. Footballer Frank Lampard, actor Edward Woodward and Rebecca Loos have all been burgled while on holiday.

Clarkson said: "I sobbed to the policeman, 'Why? Why didn't they burgle Charlotte Church? She's always on holiday."
