Films starring Nicole Kidman, Joaquin Phoenix, Colin Farrell and Adam Sandler will premiere at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.

A total of 18 new films will screen in competition at next month’s festival, including Yorgos Lanthimos’ eagerly-awaited follow-up to The Lobster, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, starring Farrell and Kidman.

Sofia Coppola’s The Beguiled, also starring Farrell and Kidman, will be shown in competition, as will Todd Haynes's Wonderstruck, starring Julianne Moore.

Sandler will be back on the Croisette for the first time since 2002, joining the cast of Noah Baumbach's The Meyerowitz Stories.

Michael Haneke’s highly-anticipated Happy Ending, starring Oscar-nominee Isabelle Huppert, will also screen in competition.

This year’s festival will be opened by Arnaud Desplechin's Ismael's Ghosts, starring Marion Cotillard.

Netflix will makes its festival debut, with two of its original films being shown during the festival.

Bong Joon Ho’s monster movie Okja and Baumbach's The Meyerowitz Stories will both screen in the official competition.

"We are thrilled at the opportunity to premiere two of our highly-anticipated films from directors Noah Baumbach and Bong Joon Ho in this prestigious forum,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer.

David Lynch’s new series of Twin Peaks will also premiere at the festival, as will Jane Campion’s Top of the Lake.
