TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh was airlifted to hospital in “agony” after eating a big meal.

Titchmarsh, 66, was taken to St Mary’s hospital, near his Isle Of Wight home where he was diagnosed with gallstones.

The TV star – who previously revealed he took pills to ward off heart disease – was later taken to Portsmouth’s Queen Alexandra hospital to recuperate.

His agent last night confirmed to The Sun that Titchmarsh is now in “tip-top condition” but will be keeping a close eye on the food he eats.

“Alan was in agony after eating fish and chips and an Easter egg,” his agent said.

“He was airlifted to hospital but was quickly told the pain was caused by gallstones.

“He is in tip-top condition and has been out boating since.

“He will be looking at the food he eats.”

In 2014 Titchmarsh said he quit BBC's Chelsea Flower Show Team because he needed to ease up.

Speaking to Yours he said: “I’m on statins. I wish I wasn’t. I don’t like the thought of taking tablets every day, but I’m following my doctor’s advice. He thinks it’s a good idea.

“The thing is, the men in my family have had a tendency to die from heart disease at a relatively young age. My dad, for instance, died suddenly in 1986 from a heart attack, aged just 62.

“Outliving my dad has made me think about things. The truth of the matter is that I’ve decided to ease up a bit, and pace myself.
