Dame Shirley Bassey has been forced to reassure fans she is still alive after reports of her death were wrongly announced by a fellow singer.

Mike d’Abo halted a gig celebrating the 60s to share some news he had allegedly heard regarding the legendary artist.

Members of the public who were at the Cardiff show said on Twitter that there was an “audible gasp” as the misinformation was announced.

According to WalesOnline, gig goers reported that d’Abo said that he didn’t know the cause of death and proceeded to pay tribute to Bassey.

Management for the Goldfinger singer – who is 81 – were quick to assure worried fans that she is “alive and well” and working in London.

A spokesperson for Bassey, based in Monaco, rubbished the “unacceptable” rumours and reiterated Bassy is “alive and kicking”.

It is believed that around 700 people were at the gig when the Manfred Mann frontman sent fans into meltdown.

Bassey isn’t the only star to fall victim of fake news, with Sylvester Stallone denying he had died last month.

Fans of the Rocky star, 71, were left panicked after false reports that he had died from prostate cancer started circulating online.

His brother Frank Stallone also slammed the “cruel” posts, tweeting: “Rumors that my brother is dead are false. What kind of sick demented cruel mind thinks of things like this to post?

“People like this are mentally deranged and don’t deserve a place in society.”
