Brad Pitt shows off his French in an exclusive clip from Allied, which sees him caught up in an explosive shoot out with Marion Cotillard.

The one and a half minute clip shows Canadian intelligence officer Max Vatan (Pitt) and French Resistance fighter Marianne Beausejour (Cotillard) preparing for a signal to open fire at an event in Morocco for the German Ambassador.

The duo – who play assassins in the World War II drama – are awaiting his arrival when the clock strikes 8:35pm and a bomb explodes.

Vatan throws over a table and unlocks the guns hidden underneath before he and Beausejour open fire on the crowd and kill the Ambassador as terrified onlookers scurry for cover.

Lovers: Marion Cotillard and Brad Pitt on set in Morocco

Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the film follows the two characters as they fall in love during the mission to kill the German official. The pair move to London and welcome a child before questions are raised about Beausejour's identity.

Speaking at a press conference she said: “He had this commitment to do the best he could, which was really, really impressive, so I helped him by being very tough.”

“I was very honest with him. But at the same time, I really wanted to support him in this process that I went through, and I know how hard it is.”

She also revealed that playing Pitt's onscreen love interest was "awkward" during intimate scenes, but that the pair laughed away the weirdness.

"When you know exactly what your body will do, then you can act and you can be free to give the emotions and give the feelings because you won’t think, ‘What am I going to do next? Am I going to go on top of him?’ It’s an awkward situation,” she said.

“We laughed because you need to get it out because this is so weird. And so you get this time of looking at each other and saying, ‘OK, this is so weird.’

“And then we go into this and then I’m going on top of you and then we are going to kiss.”

Jared Harris, Lizzy Caplan and Simon McBurney also star.
