Amanda Holden and Coleen Rooney are among celebrities to share adorable snaps of their children dressed up for World Book Day.

The literary celebration, which happens every March 1, encourages primary school pupils to dress up as their favourite characters and participate in fun learning events at school and elsewhere.

While many schools were forced to close due to bad weather and others cancelled fancy dress over safety fears, some escaped cancellations and celebrities shared gorgeous photos of their little ones all dressed up.

Posting on Twitter, Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden shared an image of her daughter Hollie with the caption: “Our #HRH as #mildredhubble #worstwitch #WorldBookDayUK #WorldBookDay2018 @cbbc.”

Coleen Rooney shared a triptych of eight-year-old Kai, four-year-old Klay and two-year-old Kit in costume.

Kai and Klay chose to go as Roald Dahl character The Big Friendly Giant, complete with brown waistcoats and big ears, while Kit looked cute as Peter Pan.

Rochelle Humes also shared a snap of her daughter dressed as a character from the movie Trolls.

The Saturdays singer's Alaia-Mai took inspiration from Poppy for her outfit as Humes proudly showed her off with a video clip from their house.

Liberty X singer Michelle Heaton posted a shot of her daughter as Belle and her son as a Marvel character for the festivities.

Writing on Instagram, she said: “Well these beauty’s are all dressed up for #worldbookday. My kids chose the less traditional costumes .. but I don’t really care! They rock #proudmummy #Disney #marvel.”

Fans were quick to comment on the post gushing over the children and their choice of characters, adding their own World Book Day exploits.
