Amy Schumer has been inundated with no make-up selfies after she started the hashtag #girlyoudontneedmakeup with a parody video.

The comedienne’s Comedy Central show, Inside Amy Schumer featured a video titled Girl, You Don't Need Makeup - a nod to One Direction's hit, What Makes You Beautiful.

In the video, four young boys tell Schumer to wipe her make-up off, but proceed to encourage her to put it back on when they see her fresh-faced look.

With lyrics including, “You’re great except your face, girl, so don’t take off your makeup!” Schumer can be seen reapplying until she is left with a badly contoured face and bright pink cheeks.

Shortly before the show aired, Schumer took to Twitter to upload her own make-up free selfie and encouraged her followers to follow suit.

She captioned the photo: “In 30 mins #InsideAmy airs. Post your #girlyoudontneedmakeup photos (no makeup and tag me and #InsideAmy and I'll RT!”

Overwhelmed by the response, Schumer – who earlier this month threw herself at the feet of Kim Kardashian and her husband Kanye West at the TIME 100 gala – told fans that she had been “brought to tears”.

“I have been brought to tears with all the strong, badass, incredible women tonight. In jungles, jumping out of planes, holding their babies and mothers hands. All the strong lovely men who tweeted too. We are all different and beautiful. Let's waste no time stressin bout looks,” she tweeted.
