Legendary blues musician B.B. King has been hospitalised his daughter has confirmed to the Los Angeles Times.

King's daughter, Claudette, told the publication that her father was taken to a Las Vegas hospital after suffering from dehydration caused by his Type II diabetes.

She later confirmed that the 89-year-old – who has suffered with the disease for more than 20 years – “is much better."

The news comes six months after King - whose hits include Three O'Clock Blues and The Thrill Is Gone - was forced to cancel eight dates of his tour after falling ill following a show at Chicago's House of Blues last year.

A statement on his website read: “Mr. King did not feel well enough to continue his performance last night, Oct 3, 2014, at the House of Blues in Chicago.

“He was immediately evaluated by a doctor and diagnosed with dehydration and suffering from exhaustion whereby causing the eight remaining shows of his current tour to be cancelled.”

King, also known as the 'King of the Blues', has released more than 50 albums in his 70 year career and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987.
