BAFTA nominations 2016: Spectre and Jennifer Lawrence among most snubbed

Stars including Leonardo DiCaprio and Alicia Vikander have been honoured with nominations, but there are one or two notable BAFTA snubs this year.

While the nominations short-list was pretty much as expected, there was a noticeable lack of nominations for box office smash Spectre and for awards ceremony favourite Jennifer Lawrence.

Despite being one of the most successful British films of 2015, the latest James Bond film failed to get a nod in any category.

While it wasn’t expected to get nods for Best Film or Best Actor, it was thought that it might pick up one or two in the technical categories.

Lawrence, who stars in David O Russell’s Joy, has also missed out on a nomination after being recognised in the Golden Globes shortlist.

Tom Hardy, who has received nods elsewhere for his role in Mad Max: Fury Road and in The Revenant, failed to be recognised by BAFTA, as did veteran star Michael Caine for Youth.

Other notable exceptions include Charlotte Rampling, who was expected to be nominated for 45 Years and Tom Hanks for Bridge of Spies.

This year’s nominations, which were announced on the morning of January 8, include Best Film nods for Carol, The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, The Revenant and Spotlight.

The ceremony will take place at the Royal Opera House on February 14.
