Barry Gibb has reportedly pulled out of his Glastonbury appearance just one week ahead of the festival.

The Bee Gees star was set to appear on stage alongside headliners Coldplay, but has been forced to cancel his appearance.

According to reports, the 69-year-old will not be performing at Worthy Farm next week as a ‘close family member’ has fallen ill.

A source told The Sun: “Barry has had to stay put in Florida as a close family member is unwell and he needs to be with them. It’ll be a shock if he makes it.

“He’s a good friend of Chris and the band and didn’t want to let them down, but there is just no time for him to get to England to rehearse.”

Reports suggest that Coldplay had prepared a huge number based around Gibb’s guest slot and will now have to re-think their show.

“Coldplay had planned a big, colourful set around Barry’s appearance. The medley was going to be in the middle of it all as a centrepiece,” said the insider.

“Now they are having to go back to the drawing board and think up a different surprise, which isn’t what they need when they’re doing a world tour.

“But if there is anyone you can rely on to come up with something special, it’s Coldplay.”

The British band are rumoured to have secured a number of high profile stars to make surprise appearances during their set, including Rihanna and Beyonce.
