Beyoncé surprised a teenage cancer patient with a FaceTime call in hospital.

The US superstar, 35, made Ebony Banks’ dream come true when she called her after Banks’ friends launched a social media campaign.

Banks, whose nickname is Ebob, was diagnosed with a rare stage four cancer and has spent most of her final school year at the MD Anderson hospital in Houston, Texas.

Her school friends’ kick started the #EBOBMEETSBEYONCE hashtag on social media in a bid to grant Banks her wish to spend some one-on-one time with with the Crazy in Love singer.

“We just decided she should, you know, meet Beyoncé,” Banks’ school friend Shanya McKnight told local news site KHOU. “We started this hashtag to see how far we could get.

“We started hashtagging it, tagging people, we tagged the news. Mostly, we tagged Beyoncé we wanted to get her attention that Ebony wanted to meet her.”

Their plan paid off and Beyoncé called Banks on Wednesday. In an emotional call, Beyoncé can be seen waving to the young teen before telling her: “I love you.”

Speaking about the call McKnight said: “It was like wow, it really happened. We actually got her attention.”

Fans were overcome with emotion on seeing a video clip of the call, with one tweeting: “Sooo beautiful! God bless them both! So glad Ebony got her wish!”

Another posted: “The cutest thing ever. My heart can't take this...”

Banks has missed school due to her illness, so Alief Independent School District and Banks' family and friends recently held an early graduation ceremony in her honour.
