Blur announce new album, The Magic Whip and Hyde Park comeback gig
Blur have announced a comeback gig and the release of a new album - more than a decade since their last.
Members Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree have reunited to create their first album since Think Tank was released in 2003.
The Britpop band took to their official Facebook page to announce the news this afternoon, writing: “Finally, we can confirm that we will be releasing an album, 'The Magic Whip' on April 27th, our first as a four-piece in 16 years!”
Alongside the caption were two pictures – one of the album sleeve showing a neon ice cream and the Chinese symbols for The Magic Whip, and another which appears to show songs from the new album.
The band also announced the news that they will headline Hyde Park, London on June 20. The announcement was made via a live streamed press conference hosted by Zane Lowe at the Golden Phoenix restaurant in London.
Social media users were thrown into speculation earlier today when The Sun uploaded a photo of the album sleeve. The band later teased fans with the tweet, “Stand by....” followed by a link to their Facebook page.
Blur first formed in London in 1998 and went on to release seven albums and scoop 40 awards.
