Bruce Springsteen slams Donald Trump’s ‘fundamentally un-American’ travel ban

Bruce Springsteen slammed US President Donald Trump, branding his travel ban on refugees and people from Muslim-majority countries as “fundamentally un-American”.

Springsteen, 67, 'added his voice' to the people protesting the policy at airports across the US as he performed on stage with the E Street Band in Adelaide, Australia.

Speaking to the crowd he said: “Tonight we want to add our voices to the thousands of Americans who are protesting at airports around our country over the Muslim ban and the detention of foreign nationals and refugees.

“America is a nation of immigrants and we find this anti-democratic and fundamentally un-American.”

The singer received huge cheers from the crowd before launching into his 2006 single, American Land, which he described as an “immigrant song”.

The 90-day ban will prevent the entry of nationals from seven predominantly Muslim countries, including Iran, Iraq, Libya, Syria, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen.

More than one million people have signed a petition to prevent Mr Trump from travelling to the UK for a state visit following his travel ban.

Up to 18,000 Londoners have pledged to attend a march to Downing Street on Monday evening in protest.

It is not the first time Springsteen has spoken out against Mr Trump. During the Presidential campaigns, he branded the Republican a “moron” and described the Trump phenomenon as a “tragedy for our democracy”.

His most recent comments come hours after comedians Charlie Brooker and Armando Iannucci called on Twitter to ban Mr Trump from the micro-blogging site.

Brooker said it would be “F****** hilarious” to get the US President’s account deleted over his stance on immigration, while Iannucci suggested someone start a petition to get his account deleted.
