Cara Delevingne has told of her hopes to act on the West End stage — and has her heart set on a Chekhov play.

The model-turned-actress, 24, has racked up several movie roles and has one of the main parts in Luc Besson’s new sci-fi blockbuster Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets.

Now she has revealed she wants to tread the boards. “I would love to do that,” she said. “That would be incredible. Ooh it’s so hard [to pick a favourite], I was going to say Chekhov.”

Having left the fashion world for the time being, Delevingne is concentrating on “pushing the boundaries” in her acting career and wants to explore as many different roles as possible.

She has several big screen films to come out, including the much-delayed Tulip Fever and Life In A Year.

She is also reported to be heading to Hollywood on a more permanent basis, after buying a home in Los Angeles with her sister Poppy. According to The Sun they have paid more than £1.5 million for a property previously owned by Jared Leto.

But she said: “Five-year plans scare me. I feel like I’m definitely ticking boxes right now. Luc Besson — check, sci-fi massive blockbuster — check.

“I think just as an actor it’s wanting to push the boundaries and do as many different things as possible, explore all different genres, all different roles and work with different directors.

“I’m just trying to do what makes me happiest and proving myself in terms of just doing the job as best I can for the role, with the director’s vision.” She added to the scattergun approach by releasing her first single, I Feel Everything, last week.

In Valerian, released on Friday, Delevingne plays special agent Laureline, who is trying to stop the destruction of a planet, opposite Dane DeHaan’s Captain Valerian.

She said they had a natural chemistry that “worked straight away”. “It’s either there or it’s not and I think when we first met we were just so excited to be picked to play these roles.

"Already we had that very fun, playful energy between us, just in terms of teasing each other all the time. It just worked. Every day was completely different and every day you’re met by Luc’s gleaming face and his complete joy for this movie, and for life.”

Of her role she added: “[Laureline] is this incredibly strong, intelligent character who is equal to a man.

"Obviously the physical aspect was difficult but it was just so much fun getting to be in the best shape of your life, getting to do all the stunts and really feeling like you were that strong. I loved being that strong, I loved being able to take down two guys at once.”
