Why should St Patrick and St David get all the attention? There's a big push afoot to reclaim St George's Day as the official day to celebrate English patriotism.

The best way to join the movement is to track down your nearest celebration and drink a toast to our official dragon-slaying saint on 23 April.

If, like many Englishmen and women, you are having trouble knowing the best way to celebrate our saint's day, here are a few ideas to get you started.

St George's Day Festival
This traditional festival has been organised by The Royal Society of St. George and promises to be a real family day out, with Morris dancers, mummers plays, Punch and Judy, battle re-enactments, marching bands and more.
West Piazza, Covent Garden. Sat 22 April from 10.30am to 5.30pm. Nearest tube: Covent Garden. Entry: Free

Shakespeare's Birthday Party
A free family event celebrating Shakespeare's birthday, which is traditionally marked on 23 April, will take place at Shakepeare's Globe. The day will begin with an exciting event on the river and continue with Roman-themed side-shows and workshops, as well as the chance to take to the world-famous Globe stage and deliver a line or two yourself.
Shakepeare's Globe, Bankside, SE1. Sun 23 April, 10am to 4pm. Nearest tube: London Bridge Visit www.shakespeares-globe.org

Chaplin at Leicester Square
A big screen in Leicester Square will celebrate the work of silent movie genius Charlie Chaplin, plus street entertainment and activities for children. The free event will take place on Sunday from noon to 6pm.

St George's Day Pub Quiz
If you feel like celebrating St George in a more low-key fashion, why not head to The Morrison pub in Fulham for a good old St George's Day pub quiz? The questions start at 5.30pm on Sunday and entry is £2 per person.
