Chris Hemsworth has announced that he is taking a break from acting in order to spend more time with his family.

The Australian star, who is best known for his role as Thor in Marvel’s Avengers franchise, told Australia’s Daily Telegraph that he is ready to step back from the spotlight while his three children are at “a very important age.”

“This year I probably won’t shoot anything,” he told the publication. “I just want to be at home now with my kids.

“They are at a very important age. They are still young and they are aware when I leave more than before.”

The 35-year-old actor married actress and model Elsa Pataky in 2010. The couple are parents to India, seven, and twins Sasha and Tristan, five.

Speaking to GQ magazine last year, Hemsworth revealed that he finds it difficult to leave his young children behind to film overseas.

He told the publication that his daughter finds the separation particularly hard.

Superhero: Hemsworth has also expressed a desire to revisit his most famous role

“She’s normally like, ‘Yeah, see you, daddy. Cool,’” he recalled. “[This time] she was like, ‘Papa! Papa! Papa!’ She doesn’t always call me Papa, either.”

Hemsworth first played Marvel’s hammer-wielding superhero in 2011 film Thor and has since reprised the role in two sequels, The Dark World and Ragnarok, as well as The Avengers, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Doctor Strange, Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

Eamonn Holmes blasted for 'cringe' Chris Hemsworth interview

“I felt like the last three films were very, very different each time,” he said. “It really felt like a totally different character.”

Addressing the possibility of Thor appearing in the third Guardians of the Galaxy film, Hemsworth appeared keen.

“I’ll work with any of those guys,” he told the publication. “Asgardians of the Galaxy. That’s actually great.”
