Colin Firth’s wife Livia Giuggioli has reportedly dropped stalking charges against former lover Marco Brancaccia.

Giuggioli reported Brancaccia to authorities after he sent an image outing their affair to Firth after the end of their relationship.

Giuggioli, who has been married to Firth since 1997, later admitted her affair with Brancaccia before claiming that he had been “harassing” her with a series of threatening texts and calls.

But now it has been reported that all charges brought in Rome, Italy, have been dropped and a private settlement has been reached.

The statement from lawyers, reported by The Sun, read: “In the best interests of their families, the parties have agreed a private settlement.

“The parties have asked the court for a postponement of the preliminary hearing in order to formalise the agreement.

"This agreement precludes any further public statement by any of the parties about this matter.”

The Sun quotes him as speaking from his Brazilian home, detailing: “I was angry and upset. I sent an email to Colin and it had a picture of Livia.

“I wanted him to know what happened. I had a reply which was very understanding.

“Then police are at my house and they’ve taken my computer and phone.”
