Jamie Bell, Aidan Turner and Idris Elba have all been rumoured to be taking on the role of James Bond – but it looks as though Daniel Craig may be staying put.

Bond's Executive Producer Callum McDougall has revealed Craig is the one they want to play the 007 agent in the next film, providing he wants to stay on board.

McDougall made the comments on BBC Radio 4 and said Craig is “absolutely” the first choice of fellow producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson.

When asked by presenter Nick Robinson who will take on the role, McDougall replied: “I wish I knew. We’d love Daniel. We would love Daniel to return as Bond.

“Without any question he is absolutely Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson’s first choice and I know they are hoping for him to come back.”

Robinson asked: “If he signs you’ll welcome him back?”

McDougall replied: “Absolutely.”

Robinson also tweeted the news, posting: “Drumroll. Fanfare. The next Bond is ....Daniel Craig if he still wants the job Bond's Executive Producer Callum McDougall tells.”

McDougall's comments come weeks after Craig was reportedly offered £150 million to continue his reign as the British spy.

Radar Online reported that Sony offered Craig the large sum in a bid to secure him for two more films.

“The studio is desperate to secure the actor’s services while they phase in a younger long-term successor,” a source told the publication.

“Everyone knows how much executives adore him, and the idea of losing him at such a crucial time in the franchise isn’t an option as far as all the studio honchos are concerned.”

Craig took on the role in 2005 and has appeared in four Bond films: Casion Royale, Quantum of Solace, Skyfall and Spectre.
