N-Dubz singer Dappy has endorsed Norman Lamb's Liberal Democrat leadership bid.

The 27-year-old today backed the North Norfolk MP to succeed Nick Clegg as party leader.

Taking on Twitter Dappy - whose real name is Costadinos Contostavlos - posted: “I'm backing @NormanLamb to become leader of the Liberal Democrats and help put power back in the hands of individuals.”

He ended the tweet with a link to Mr Lamb's website.

Fans took to Twitter to suggest that the musician's support for the MP was in the hope that it may give him a career boost after Mr Lamb helped to launch rapper Tinchy Stryder.

He revealed in an interview with The Guardian in 2009 that he remortgaged his home to finance Stryder's career - something he said Mr Clegg was "amazed by".

Endorsement: Lib Dem MP Norman Lamb

Mr Lamb made the decision to help the aspiring pop star for his son Archie, who is a co-founder of Stryder's management team, Takeover Entertainment.

One user tweeted: "Given Norman Lamb remortgaged his house to fund Tinchy Stryder's early music career it's not that shocking to get the big Dappy endorsement."
