Organisers of the David Bowie tribute concert have added a second night and new acts to the bill.

The event, which was organised before the star’s death, has been turned into an extended memorial for the star due to public demand.

Stars including The Roots, Perry Farrell, Bettye LaVette, Ann Wilson are already set to perform on March 31 at Carengie Hall.

Now another event will take place a day later at Radio City Music Hall, featuring performances by Michael Stipe, Laurie Anderson, Cat Power and the Polyphonic Spree.

Event producer Michael Dorf told Entertainment Weekly: “Obviously we thought we were going to be paying tribute to a living legend, and now we’ll be paying tribute to a legend who passed.”

A message on the concert's website describes the event as a ‘poignant celebration’ of the British rocker’s life following his shock death on Sunday.

Stars on David Bowie's death

The message read: “The unexpected death of David Bowie has turned this tribute, which we have worked on for the past 7 months, into a memorial concert.

“While the series has featured surprise appearance and performances of honourees several time in the past, this year’s concert will certainly be remembered as a poignant celebration of this music by his friends, peers and fans.

“We are all deeply saddened by this news. The timing of our public on-sale date is bizarre in its timing and the show is taking on many more emotional. RIP Davis and may Gold’s love be with you.”

Bowie passed away last Sunday at the age of 69 after a battle with cancer.
