Declan Donnelly jokes his unborn baby is already a critic after ‘clapping’ during night out at theatre

Declan Donnelly has hailed his unborn child a “critic” after wife Ali Astall felt the tot “clapping” following the end of a theatre performance.

Making the most of their anniversary before becoming parents for the first time, Donnelly took to social media to thank fans for their support during their celebrations.

After enjoying a performance of A Monster Calls at the Old Vic Theatre, he wrote: “Thanks for the anniversary wishes to me and Mrs D, much appreciated D x.”

The 42-year-old then went on to reveal the tot, who is set to arrive next month, has given a seal of approval too, adding: “Anniversary night was a trip to the @oldvictheatre to see “A Monster Calls”.

“Simply brilliant. Fantastic cast, inventive staging and the music is incredible. Even bump enjoyed it (we think that was clapping going on in there!) #OVMonster D.”

Fans gushed over the tweet, with one writing: “Happy Anniversary. All the very best to you & Ali with baby. Can't wait for that news. Bless you all.”

Another said: “My heart just fluttered at the mention of Bump clapping! Baby Donnelly is going to be so adorable having you and Ali as parents!”

A third commented: “Glad you’ve had a lovely day lots of love to the 3 of you.”

The pair announced the news that they are expecting their first child in March.

Taking to Instagram to share the news, Donnelly said: “Just wanted to say thank you for all the lovely messages.

“The news has sneaked out a little earlier than we had hoped but Ali and I are delighted to be expecting our first child. Thanks for all the love, we really appreciate it ️D x”
