Dominic West has admitted that he was offered a role on Game of Thrones, but was forced to turn it down.

The British actor, who was rumoured to be in the running for the role of Mance Rayder, has hinted that he was approached by producers.

Speaking on This Morning, The Wire star seemed coy when Holly Willoughby asked him if he’d been offered the part.

“I don’t think that’s true. I mean, why would I?,” he joked.

After Phillip Schofield pressed him, the 46-year-old added: “I was probably doing The Affair.”

West went on to suggest that, if producers were to approach him about a future role, he might not be so quick to turn it down.

“That was the problem. If they asked me again, I’d be delighted,” he said.

The role eventually went to actor Ciarán Hinds, who started playing the character back in 2013.

West has been critically acclaimed for his role in HBO’s The Affair, opposite fellow Brit Ruth Wilson.

Speaking about the show, he said: “I've seen a bit of it. It's always me - Ruth Wilson is always covered up, I'm the one who always has to get naked.”
