Dwayne Johnson has ruled out running for President in 2020 despite "seriously considering" it.

The actor has previously hinted that he was considering running for office in the next US presidential election.

He first expressed interest in exploring politics back in 2016, but has now said he needs more "time" before taking the next step.

Johnson has appeared to end all hope of him taking over as the next president due to existing commitments.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, he said: “Unfortunately I don’t see it happening in 2020. It’s a position that requires years of hard work and experience to learn the skills.

“There’s a lot of ground to cover, and due to my schedule, it’s not possible in 2020.

"I have so much respect for the position. It’s something that I seriously considered. What I need is time to go out and learn.”

The news comes after Johnson told how he intended to "delay" his campaign earlier this year, saying: “The best thing I can do now is go to work and learn”.

Speaking at the premiere of his film, Rampage, in Leicester Square, Johnson said: "I think right now I am just learning as much as I can. I respect our political process.

"I also do not have any delusions that it's easy. And I have a tremendous respect, so 2020 is not going to happen.

"Maybe 2024, maybe 2028, I don't know.

"I think the best thing I can do now is to go to work and learn. That's where we're at."
