Ed Sheeran married his childhood sweetheart Cherry Seaborn in a “top secret” ceremony just before Christmas, according to reports.

The low-key ceremony was reportedly held at the pop star’s country estate in Suffolk despite his plans to build a wedding chapel on the site being rejected.

A source close to him told The Sun that the Shape of You singer invited only his oldest school friends and limited family.

Speaking to the newspaper, they said: “He wanted no fuss and he wanted it to be something entirely for them – just a tiny winter wedding.”

Only 40 people attended, the source added.

The Standard has approached Sheeran’s representatives for comment.

The pop star last year said the couple wore rings so “nobody will know when we have got married”.

Sheeran announced his engagement to Seaborn on Instagram in January last year.

Captioning a picture of the pair, he wrote: “Got myself a fiancé just before new year. We are very happy and in love, and our cats are chuffed as well.”

Following his proposal, Sheeran submitted plans to build a wedding chapel on his property.

According to the Belfast Telegraph, the plans were submitted to Suffolk Coastal District Council.

But the local authority last June denied planning permission for the Saxon-style chapel.

The planning documents revealed that the chapel would have been made of flint, in a Saxon style, with a rounded tower.
