Eddie Redmayne has admitted that he’s feeling rather daunted about the prospect of becoming a first time father.

The Oscar-winner, whose wife Hannah Bagshawe recently announced that she was pregnant, feels that ‘pretty much every element’ will be alien to him.

Speaking on the red carpet at Saturday’s SAG Awards, Redmayne told E! News:

“We started looking at the logistics and all the lists of things you're meant to get before you go into hospital and that's a long list of stuff right there.”

When asked which elements of parenthood would be ‘alien’ to him, he responded: “Do you know what? Pretty much every element of it.”

He added: “We have this dream of wooden toys and all that. Everyone's like, 'You always start like that and you end up with iPhones.’”

Redmayne, who was nominated in the Best Actor category for his role in The Danish Girl, is taking some time off after wrapping Harry Potter spin-off Fantastic Beasts.

“I got in yesterday, just finished shooting Fantastic Beasts yesterday as well,” he said.

“It's been six months of filming. So I'm on holiday and the sun is shining in LA, so that's wonderful. The past year has been quite manic.

“Weirdly, Hannah and I find airplanes quite calming places. You can't use your phone, you have to sit and relax and take it easy."
