Ellie Goulding has denied that she is ‘quitting’ music, saying that she is simply ‘taking a break’.

The pop superstar, who has achieved success on both sides of the Atlantic, took to Twitter to clarify remarks she made about having time off.

On Thursday morning, she tweeted her fans to say: “I am not quitting music, I've come too far for that! Just having a break. It's been seven years since I had time off.... Love you all.”

The tweet comes after Goudling was quoted as saying that she was not in the process of writing and recording new material.

She told The Sun: “I’m not writing new stuff. I’m not sure when I’ll release a new album. It might not even be next year.

“I need time off for my own head. My plan is to have a month off in August and do more of my charity stuff and then next year I need to live a bit.

“Who knows? My situation has changed.”

Goulding has just split from on/off boyfriend Dougie Poynter after two years of dating.

She said: “People think I’m invincible but these past few weeks have been tough.

“I’m not in a relationship anymore and that’s been hard. Having a break will be a good thing for me and my head.”
