Emeli Sandé has revealed she would like to swap writing songs for writing novels.

The singer, who is touring her third studio album, spoke to Insider about her ambitions beyond music.

She said: “I would love to act and I would also like to try creative writing. I feel like writing prose wouldn’t be too far off writing lyrics. So maybe pushing my creativity in to writing a novel.”

But she added: “I am sure as soon as I sit down to do it I will see it’s really hard and want to go back on tour.”

Sandé also admitted that touring suited her — because she hates mornings. “I am not a morning person at all,” she said. “Generally it is best to not speak to me before 11. So really, this has been quite a good choice of career for me.”

The singer, 32, released her first single in 2011 and went on to have two number one hits, including Read All About It with Professor Green. She has recently opened up about her mental health struggles, having suffered anxiety following the breakdown of her marriage and as a result of her fame.

She said: “I think it was always something that was a taboo [talking about mental health]. And not talking about it was even more damaging, pretending to be OK all the time. Speaking has been great therapy.”

Asked why she felt that way, Sandé added: “I think it was part of my personality. I wanted to be strong and I didn’t know how to be if I couldn’t.”
