US actor Mark Wahlberg has revealed that his faith in God has helped him to change his life around and achieve success.

Wahlberg, 43, earned himself the bad boy of Hollywood image following a string of misdemeanours which saw him arrested and detained multiple times as a teenager and addicted to cocaine aged 15.

He told Square Mile: “I pray every day and try to go to church every day. My faith in God is what makes me a better man.

“It’s the most important part of my life. I pray that I will live up to my intention to be the best husband and father that I can be. I never would have been able to change my life and have the success and love that I have in my world today without my faith.”

The actor's former hedonistic lifestyle and experiences as an up-and-coming film star were the inspiration behind HBO's Entourage – which has been adapted for the big screen.

Wahlberg still keeps in touch with the large crew he grew up with because it keeps him "grounded and reminds you that even though you may have more money and a certain stature, your friends will always know who you really are".

But Wahlberg – who has four children, Ella, Michael, Brendan and Grace with his wife of six years, Rhea Durham – admitted that his friend's struggled with his venture into domesticity and fatherhood.

“I bought my first house in Hollywood with the idea that I would get married and start my own family,” he said. “But then my guys came over and started checking out the house to see which rooms they were going to have.

“They simply assumed they were going to stay with me and they were telling me things like, ‘C’mon, you’re going get married and have kids? You’ve gotta be kidding…?’”

The Ted actor is already worried about working out how to deal with his children when they hit their teenage years, but says the plan is to make sure he is always around for them.

“Once they get to be teenagers I’m sure my wife and I are going to have our hands full,” he said. “But it’s great watching them grow up and it’s interesting to watch their personalities develop.

"I just try to be around for them as much as I can and be the kind of father who they know will always care and love them with all my heart and soul.”
