Fifty Shades of Grey author E L James was accused of glorifying sexual abuse during a Twitter Q&A.

The main Fifty Shades account started the session after tweeting: "Mon 29 Jun at 6pm UK time, @e_l_james will be doing a live chat with @twitterbooks. Use #AskELJames to ask a question."

But the session soon descended into accusations of glorifying sexual abuse and stalking. Others accused James of telling women that an abusive relationship is alright so long as the man is rich.

They wrote: "#AskELJames what's it like telling millions of women it's okay to be in an abusive relationship as long as he's rich."

Another added: "Do you ever feel guilty that you made so much money from romanticizing sexual abuse and selling it as "erotica romance"? #AskELJames."

One user asked sarcastically: "#AskELJames I need advice on making a BIG romantic gesture. Should I put a GPS tracker in her phone and make threats if she tries to leave?"

Others accused James of being unable to write and asked whether there is a safe word to prevent her from writing further novels.

"#AskELJames Is there a safe word we can use to get you to stop writing such drivel?" tweeted one user.

Another wrote: #AskELJames after the success of 'Grey', have you considered re-telling the story from the perspective of someone who can write."

James appeared to ignore the negative comments and described the hour long session as interesting, tweeting: "Off to meet the competition winners, now. Thanks so much for an interesting hour... :D."
