Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has broken his leg after jumping off stage during a concert in Sweden, according to reports.

Grohl, 46, announced the injury earlier this evening as he played to fans in Heden, Sweden.

"Hey, ladies and gentlemen, now look I think I just broke my leg," he told the crowd. "I think I really broke my leg. So look you have my promise right now that the Foo Fighters we’re going to come back and finish this show but right now I’m going to go to hospital.

"I’m going to fix my leg but then I’m going to come back and play for you again. I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry."

US gossip site TMZ reported that Grohl sustained the injury after jumping down from the stage.

Witnesses reported that the frontman continued with the set for a short time before heading backstage for medical assistance.

The band's drummer Taylor Hawkins is believed to have entertained crowds with several covers until Grohl reappeared.

Despite his leg bandaged up he attempted to finish the concert sitting in a chair telling his fans: “I may not be able to walk or run but I can still play guitar and scream."

Soon after he announced that he was heading to hospital.

The five piece are set to headline Glastonbury festival’s Friday night slot at the end of this month.
