The unassuming terraced house where Freddie Mercury was living when he met future Queen bandmates Brian May and Roger Taylor was today adorned with a blue plaque.

The singer’s family moved to 22 Gladstone Avenue, Feltham, Middlesex, in 1964 when they came to the Britain from Zanzibar. Freddie (born Farrokh Bulsara) was 17.

While studying at Ealing College he met guitarist May and drummer Taylor. The plaque was installed by English Heritage.

May said: “It is a pleasant duty to help install this little reminder on Freddie’s parents’ house.

"It was here I first visited Freddie soon after we met through a mutual friend. We spent most of the day listening to Hendrix on his Dan-sette record player.”

Mercury’s sister Kashmira Cooke, unveiling the plaque, said: “Mum and I are so proud and pleased. Secretly he would have been too.”

Culture Secretary Karen Bradley was also at the ceremony.

Mercury would have turned 70 this year, which marks the 25th anniversary of his death.
