Ghostbusters Dan Aykroyd and Leslie Jones locked lips on Jimmy Kimmel after the original cast members made a surprise appearance on the US show.

Not satisfied with a peck on the cheek, Jones went in for a full on kiss as she greeted the actor to celebrate Ghostbusters Day.

Jones and her co-stars Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon were unaware that their ghost busting predecessors were waiting in the wings.

The foursome were playing a quick fire question game with Kimmel – which saw Jones selected as the one most likely to delay filming, Google herself and forget her lines.

Kimmel then asked his final question: “Who is most likely to show up at a party uninvited?”

To their surprise Aykroyd answered “I suppose that’s us” as he took to the stage with Bill Murray, Ernie Hudson and Annie Potts.

The cast, old and new, showered each other with hugs and kisses before they all danced to the film's theme tune played by Ray Parker Jr..

Murray praised the new cast and said he and his fomer co-stars were cheering when they watched the new all-female remake.

“When you see the film, and you’ll delight in this film," he said. "It sort of rumbles along in the beginning and you’re going ‘Oh God, are they going to pull this thing off?’ There is no quit in these girls. This is a tough movie to pull off cause it’s a big concept, there’s a lot on the plate, there’s a lot of expectation.

"Danny, Annie, Earnie and I were just screaming, cheering like it was a sporting event.”

His comments came a day after Aykroyd gushed over Jones and the cast at ELLE’s Women in Comedy event.

Aykroyd said: "We are brother and sister in this great great crusade to bring humour, laughter and joy to the world.

"We respect their talent so much. They’re mega mega brilliant stars."
