Harry Styles will perform his debut single on The Graham Norton Show this Friday.

The former One Direction singer, 23, will drop Sign Of The Times on Nick Grimshaw’s Radio One breakfast show before performing on Norton’s chat show.

The hotly anticipated track is reportedly reminiscent of David Bowie and Prince.

A source told The Sun: “Harry isn’t a typical popstar. This is an art rock project – and he wants to let the music do the talking.”

Styles – who will star in the upcoming Dunkirk epic – will keep promotion to a minimum in a bid to avoid questions about his personal life, past relationships and his One Direction bandmates.

The source said: “He’s spent his entire life having his every move scrutinised. He doesn’t feel the need to do interviews or the promo circuit.

“There will be a couple of very big appearances to keep TV and radio on board, but it will be very limited and he’s learnt how to say very little.

“Harry’s idols are people like Bowie and Jagger. He’s closely studied their careers and that’s the direction he is heading in.

“He loves the sense of mystery they maintained around them.”

Styles is the latest One Direction star to go solo after Zayn Malik released his debut solo album Mind of Mine last March and Niall Horan dropped his track This Town in the September.

Liam Payne – who recently welcomed his first child with Cheryl – is also planning to release solo material.

The Graham Norton Show is on BBC One on Friday at 10:35pm.
