DVD/Video: The Curse Of The Jade Scorpion (Paramount Home Entertainment, 12, rental)

Woody Allen's 30th film is a long way from his best work, but it's nowhere near his worst and there are some nice touches - mostly relating to his affectionate pastiche of 1940s gumshoe flicks.

e's an investigator for an insurance firm, outraged at the arrival of efficiency expert Helen Hunt. They hate each other, but on a work night out they both get hypnotised by a mysterious magician, whose plans are rather more ambitious than office entertainment.

Hunt is more than a match for Allen, and there are always a few great Allen-isms that make it worthwhile.
