Idris Elba said he would like to work with Adele as a music producer, after revealing he had been dropped by his record label for not being “commercial enough”.

The Luther actor spoke at the world premiere of his new documentary Mandela, My Dad And Me, at the British Film Institute on the South Bank. It follows his experience producing and releasing his first album, Mi Mandela.

He is now writing an album of music inspired by his character, detective John Luther from the hit BBC series.

He would not reveal any artists he planned to work with on the project but told the Standard: “Musically I would like to work with any one of The Marley Brothers, I would like to work with Janelle Monáe, Adele.”

He said he would probably have to fund the project himself as he had been dropped by his label Parlophone. “It was not commercial enough. That’s fair enough,” he added.
