Forget Oscar nominations, Mila Kunis may well be a contender for the most awkward interview ever.

Speaking to New Jersey’s The Star-Ledger to promote her new film Third Person the 30- year-old Ted actress seemed to be in a deliberately awkward mood. She has spoken in the past about motherhood, pregnancy and her relationship with Ashton Kutcher, but when interviewer Stephen Whitty probed her she wasn’t having any of it.

“I don’t talk about that for publication,” she said.

She clearly wasn’t willing to talk about anything for publication – certainly not her political views.

Although the actress was born in the Ukraine and moved with her parents and older brother to America when she was seven, she made it clear that she does not identify with the country and did not want to comment on the country’s political volatility.

“I’ve talked about me moving to America in a hundred interviews. It’s the most mundane subject possible, it’s like everyone’s migrant story.”

She snapped: “I know what your next question is so let’s just skip it. You’re going to ask me what I think about what’s going on now in Ukraine. Just because I lived there until I was seven doesn’t mean I identify with Ukraine.”

Unfortunately for Whitty the interview failed to improve. The actress-who is notable for her roles in comedies- appeared to take offence when Whitty asked what she thought of taking “meatier” roles in dramas.

She replied: "I hate when people ask me this question. People have this misconception that comedy's easy... I'm always looking for challenges and I find a lot of things to be challenging. It can be the director, the producer, a lot of things. I just want to work with people more talented than I am that I can learn from."

Whitty promptly apologised when the interview had finished, but was baffled when the That '70s Show Actress replied, "No, no, it was a good interview!".

Maybe it's the hormones?
