James Corden has responded to a Twitter troll who sent a shocking tweet about his child after the late night host featured a Game of Thrones spoiler in his opening monologue.

The British presenter alluded to the events of the fifth episode of the HBO show’s final season at the start of The Late, Late Show on Tuesday, prompting the troll to tell Corden that they hope “his kid gets cancer.”

The tweet, which has since been removed from the social media platform, reportedly read: “It’s f***** up you can’t even watch TV without a fat f*** spoiling something… Luckily I got to see it before this, but seriously I hope his kid gets cancer.”

The host, who is father to seven-year-old son Max and daughters Carey, three, and Charlotte, one, with wife Julia, described the comment as “the single most upsetting thing” anyone could say about his family.

“That is, without question, the single most upsetting thing I think you could ever say about me or my family,” he wrote, before asking the troll to seriously reconsider his remark.

“Please take a minute and think about what you just wrote and whether you want to be a person who publicly says such things. I believe you’re better than that,” he added.

The troll then claimed that the tweet had been intended as “a joke,” but failed to convince Corden.

“Well I saw your hope for my son,” the star continued. “My hope for yours is that they never get to read that their mother or father would wish cancer on any child as ‘a joke.’

“Because however you defend it to them, they’ll never be able to understand how you could do such a thing.”

Croden was praised by social media users for taking the high ground in the face of the shocking comment.

“Wow. Fair play to you @JKCorden. Amazing response,” one follower wrote.

“You are by far the better person here. Well done Sir,” another fan added.
