James Corden receives passionate kiss from Allison Janney at Critics' Choice Television Awards

Talk show host James Corden received an unsuspecting kiss from actress Allison Janney as he presented her with a gong at the Critics' Choice Television Awards.

The Late Late Show host was presenting the 55-year-old star with the award for Best Supporting Actress In A Comedy Series when she caught him off guard.

Bowing to Janney with the award, the actress dismissed his kiss on the cheek and went straight in for a passionate kiss on the lips.

Initially hesitant, Corden then obliged and ran his fingers through the actress’s hair before backing away sheepishly.

Mom actress Janney declared: "I didn't mean anything by that. You're one of my favourite comics on the planet."

Host Cat Deeley then gave her verdict on the steamy encounter, telling the guests at the lavish ceremony: "I think there were tongues!"

The annual awards show - which honours the best in television - was held on Sunday at the Beverly Hilton. David Oyelowo was honoured with the award for best actor in a movie for his role in Nightingale while best actress went to Frances McDormand for HBO show Olive Kitteridge.

Better Call Saul comedian Bob Odenkirk won best actor in a drama series while Taraji P. Henson was honoured for her role in Empire.
