Singer Jess Glynne has bagged her fifth number one after topping this week’s UK Singles Chart.

Glynne, 25, knocked Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor’s song Marvin Gaye off of the top spot with her single, Don’t Be So Hard On Yourself.

Securing the top spot means she now matches Cheryl Fernandez-Versini’s record of five number ones - the most for a British solo female.

She described the news as "emotional".

"I'm very emotional today," she told Greg James. "I can't tell you how much it all means to me. This song is quite a special one for me.

"It comes from somewhere deep and it's one of those songs that helped me get through what I have been going through this summer.

"Everyone goes through hard times. Stuff happens in people's lives that aren't so great. I guess it was a bit of therapy for myself."

Fans will be able to celebrate with Glynne as she will be doing a special in store performance at HMV Oxford Street today at 6pm as well as signing copies of her new album, I Cry When I Laugh.

The North London singer will no doubt be celebrating the chart success – with a glass of water.

Speaking recently to the Evening Standard she said: “I’m such a bad rock’n’roller. I would choose water over an alcoholic drink. Drinking for me affects my voice so much.

“I’ve been through a lot with my voice and I worry a lot about it ... I’ll finish a gig, I’ll get my steamer, put my pyjamas on and drink loads of water.”
