Kacey Musgraves’ Album of the Year Grammy win has divided Twitter, with some music fans claiming that they “don’t know” who the country star is.

Musgraves scooped one of the night’s biggest trophies for her album Golden Hour, and also put in a strong showing in the country music categories, where she took home awards for Best Country Album, Best Country Solo Performance (for Butterflies) and Best Country Song (for Space Cowboy).

The 30-year-old star looked visibly shocked as her name was announced, seeming unable to believe her luck as she repeated: “What, what?”

“Oh my God, oh my God, I don’t even know what to say. It was unbelievable to be in a category with such gigantic albums, really brilliant works of art,” she said as she accepted her fourth award of the night.

“It’s really crazy but I’m very thankful. I know winning this doesn’t make my album any better than anybody else’s in that category. They’re all so good.

“Life is really tumultuous right now for all of us. I feel like, it can feel that way, and because of that, art is really thriving, and it’s been really beautiful to see that.”

Grammy viewers seemed equally surprised to see Musgraves win in a category that also featured Cardi B, Brandi Carlile, Drake, H.E.R, Post Malone, Janelle Monae and the Black Panther soundtrack, and joked that they’d “never heard of” the country star.

Others, however, disagreed, describing Musgraves’ win as the right decision.

“The only good thing the Grammys did this year was giving @KaceyMusgraves what she rightfully deserves,” one supporter wrote on Twitter.

“Kacey Musgraves won and she deserved it – it should’ve been either her or Janelle Monae not anyone else in that category,” another added.

Musgraves was the subject during last night’s ceremony when her name was misspelled as she was introduced as a performer.

Grammy producers struggled to spell her name correctly, labelling the singer “Kasey Musgraves.”

However, they soon picked up on the error and ensured that she was properly introduced throughout the rest of the show.
