Katherine Jenkins: I’m taking music break to be Home Sweet Home

Katherine Jenkins is planning to take a break from music for the first time in 10 years and focus on life with her new husband Andrew Levitas.

The 34-year-old mezzo soprano’s 10th album, Home Sweet Home, topped the classical charts last week, scoring Jenkins her sixth No1.

It capped a year which saw her marry US film director Levitas at Hampton Court Palace. She told the Standard: “The whole album is uplifting. It’s been such a fabulous, happy year for me. I was in a very joyful mood when I was recording the album and I wanted that to come across.” Jenkins will tour the UK in February and March, before a series of dates overseas and her first long break since her career began a decade ago.

She said: “There’s the whole cycle which comes with releasing an album, but once that is done, that might be a good time to stop and think about family and look back at a brilliant 10 years.”

Jenkins has been criticised over her image and now avoids reading about herself online as it can be too upsetting. She added: “I’ve definitely tried to toughen up. I’m naturally quite a sensitive person and even though that’s the one thing you’ve got to do, get a thicker skin, it’s really hard if it’s not how you are.

“I can never scroll down for the comments on stories online, but sometimes you come across stuff and of course it upsets you, I’m only human.”
