Katy Perry was given an unexpected gift as she celebrated Mother’s Day over in the States this weekend, courtesy of her unborn daughter.

The 35-year-old went for an ultrasound to check on the progress of her pregnancy and received a hilarious shock.

The short clips sees Perry's offspring raise her hand as the popstar laughs: “She literally is giving me the middle finger.”

The California Gurls singer then captioned the video: "When your unborn daughter gives you a middle finger from the womb you know you're in for it. #happymothersdaytome."

This will be Perry’s first child with her fiancé Orlando Bloom. The pair, who have been dating since 2016, got engaged on Valentine’s Day last year.

Perry went public with the baby news back in March when she released the music video for her single, Never Worn White, which showed Perry cradling a burgeoning baby bump.

She explained during an Instagram Live promoting the song: “There’s a lot that’s happening this summer. Not only will I be giving birth, literally, and figuratively… to something you guys have been waiting for. I’m excited, we’re excited, and happy.

The singer shared the tender moment on her Instagram

“It’s probably the longest secret I’ve ever had to keep. I thought I would tell you guys in the best way through a piece of music.”

Since the news went public, Perry has been reflective about parenthood, sharing her thoughts while judging on American Idol from the comfort of her own home.

“I don't know exactly what it means yet to be a mother, although I've always felt very motherly to my friends and my fans and stuff,” she said. “But I know that I'm about to step into the next level.”

Speaking about her pregnancy, Perry jokingly added: “She's kicking too and she also kicks when the performances are good.

“So just so you know, let them be good but not too good, because it's painful.”
