Lady Gaga in tears over dying 'angel' horse after her double Critics' Choice Award win

Lady Gaga was dealt a devastating blow after bagging a double win at the Critics’ Choice Awards, after being told her “angel of a horse” was dying.

Gaga, real name Stefani Germanotta, picked up Best Song and Best Actress, tied with Glenn Close, at Sunday night’s awards bash.

But she was unable to celebrate, instead having to rush home to “say goodbye” to Arabella.

Gaga posted a touching tribute to her “angel,” who she said will “forever be a part of me”.

“I am so honoured and blessed to have won both Best Song and Best Actress alongside Glenn Close this evening,” she wrote alongside a picture of herself riding Arabella. “My heart is exploding with pride. But it saddens me to say that just after the show I learned that my dear angel of a horse, Arabella is dying. I am rushing to her now to say goodbye.”

She continued: “Our souls and spirits were one. When she was in pain, so was I. I will never forget the moments we shared. Long hikes together, galloping through the canyons. Feeding her cookies. She will forever be a part of me. I am so very sad. But I wish for your pain to end, and the gates of heaven to open for you. I love you. Girl, where do you think you’re goin?”

Gaga posted the tribute alongside a broken heart emoji and the caption: “Goodbye, my angel.”

Fans were quick to offer messages of support, with one commenting: “Arabella will forever be in our hearts stay strong mama, I love you.”

Another wrote: “Now she's running free and happy, giving her love to you in your soul.”

Others hailed Gaga an “inspiration” as they sent “love and light”.

Gaga broke down on accepting her Best Actress gong for A Star is Born at the Critics’ Choice Awards, telling the audience the film was “one of the hardest things I've ever done”.

“I am so honoured by this,” she said. “I went to places in my mind and in my heart that I did not know existed or that I could.”

Gaga plays Jackson Maine, who struggles with alcoholism, in the Bradley Cooper directed hit. She dedicated her award to “all people who have suffered from alcoholism and addiction or whoever watched their love ones suffer”.

She said: “I wanted nothing more than to show the truth and the power of this very heartbreaking dynamic. This is the true star of the film, the true star of the film is not me. It’s bravery and perseverance.”
