Lily Allen has spoken out on her stalker experience, revealing that the man in question "intended to kill me.”

The Somewhere Only We Know singer revealed how the actions of her stalker impacted her day-to-day life.

In 2016, it emerged that Allen had been the victim of a targeted stalker for seven years.

Incidents included the man breaking into her home while she slept with the intent to harm her, sending her a swarm of tweets, suicide threats and threatening letters being left at her home and other personal locations.

Alex Gray, 31, from Perth, Scotland was convicted of harassment and burglary at Harrow Crown Court after which he was given an indeterminate hospital order.

Speaking on the George Ezra & Friends podcast Allen said: “I had a stalker about two and a half years ago, and it was a really horrendous experience.

“He broke into my house, and it later transpired that he did intend to kill me. That really spun me out.

“It wasn’t validated by the police, they just tried to play it down. It wasn’t until the trial that I found out was his intentions were.”

She added: “Because of the lack of validation from the police, I didn’t feel like I could talk to anyone about it – not even my friends or my family.

“When a crime is committed, their point of reference to how serious it is, is how the police take it.”

The 32-year-old spoke out against the Metropolitan police, claiming she was “victim-shamed” and made to “feel like a nuisance rather than a victim.”

She said to Ezra: “I just became incredibly isolated. I cut off from everybody. I was spending all of my time at home.

“I slept a lot, I cried a lot. I was going to the studio to work, but I think that all of my music has always been about my lived experiences.”
